Sometimes being a manager really sucks. Yesterday one of my employees' bands played in a local pub. This morning a group of people were talking about having been to see them. And I felt left out.Now I've NEVER been one to socialize a great deal with my co-workers. I can chit-chat about work well enough, but I don't do small talk particularly well so non-work socializing pretty much has always been limited to lunchtime or a quick drink after work. So it's not that I would have gone even if I'd been invited. But it sounded like such a nice time, and I was sorry I'd missed it.
How do other managers handle hanging out socially with their employees or their employees' co-workers?
